Tiranga will be hoisted in 20 crore homes for 3 days. Modi government is going to run the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign from 13 to 15 August under the program ‘Azadi Ke Amrit Mahotsav’.
Under this, there is a plan to hoist the Tiranga in 20 crore houses in these three days. In view of this, a change has been made to the Flag Code. After this change, now the Tiranga can be hoisted both day and night.

What is Har Ghar Tiranga campaign?
Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign: The central government has started the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign to motivate the citizens of the country to hoist the national flag at their homes between August 13 and 15 and in 25 crore homes across the country.
The goal is to hoist the Tiranga. For this, the Central Government Ministry of Culture has contacted all the states and business organizations to participate in the Tiranga campaign.
For this, the central government has also made changes to the rules for hoisting the Tiranga. The central government has set a target of availability of 27 crores of Tirangas for hoisting the Tiranga in every house.
The government has organized a traders’ union, and the Federation of All India Traders, the leading organization of traders, has asked the flag manufacturers to increase production to meet the increasing demand, as well as strictly follow the provisions of the National Flag Code.
Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Bihar, and Rajasthan units to contact textile products in their respective states and motivate them to make national flags in large numbers. It is said that there are different sizes of Tirangas available in the market ranging from Rs.10 to Rs.150.

When did people get the right to hoist the Tiranga?
After independence, common people did not have the right to hoist the Tiranga in their homes. In 1996, the Supreme Court ruled that hoisting the Tiranga is a fundamental right of every citizen of the country.
After this decision, a committee was formed under the leadership of PD Shenoy. In 2002, the Flag Code came, in which common citizens also got the right to hoist Tiranga. This flag code is applicable since 26 January 2002.
Hoisting the Tiranga is a fundamental right of every citizen and it is a fundamental duty to respect it. It is provided for in Article 51A (a) of the Constitution. This article says that it is the fundamental duty of every citizen of India to respect the Tiranga and the national anthem.
What’re the changes?
Made two major changes. Firstly, now the Tiranga can be hoisted even at night. Till now the Tiranga could be hoisted only from sunrise to sunset. But now you will be able to hoist the Tiranga at home for 24 hours. After this change, now common people, private organizations, or institutions can hoist the Tiranga day and night.
The second change is that till now only the national flag made of hand-woven and spun wool, cotton, or silk khadi was allowed to be hoisted, but now the Tiranga is made of machine-made cotton, wool, or silk khadi will also be able to be hoisted. Also, now the Tiranga made of polyester can also be hoisted.
Where can you buy the flag?
Tiranga can be bought from anywhere. There is no restriction on the purchase and sale of Tiranga. You can also buy Tiranga online. There is no GST on the Tiranga.
How big can the Tiranga be hoisted?
There is no rule regarding the size of the Tiranga. It can be how big or how small. According to Flag Code 2002, the Tiranga should be rectangular. Its size can be anything. But the ratio of its length and breadth will be 3:2.
When will the Tiranga be considered an insult?
- When you hoist the Tiranga in the house, take special care that it is not tilted, it is not touching the ground or water is not visible. If this happens then it will be an insult to the Tiranga.
- The Tiranga should have saffron at the top and green at the bottom. In no case should there be green on top and saffron at the bottom.
- Nothing can be written on the flag. It is forbidden to wear the Tiranga in any part of any dress or uniform. Nor should any handkerchief, pillow, or napkin have the design of the Tiranga.
- The flag cannot be used for wrapping in any form, including in the funeral procession of a person. It cannot be used for giving, holding, or carrying any goods. However, flower petals can be placed inside the Tiranga on special occasions including Independence Day and Republic Day.
- The national flag cannot be used to cover any statue or building. The national flag shall not be used to cover the speaker’s table or to decorate the stage at any event. It cannot be installed in any vehicle, train, boat, or airplane. It is allowed to be installed only in the vehicles of persons holding constitutional posts.
- The flag should not be torn or untidy. If the Tiranga is being hoisted at home or in any institution, then there should not be any other flag equal to or higher than it.
What could happen if it did?
If you are hoisting the Tiranga at home and it gets torn or gets old due to some reason, then it will be disposed of in a respectful manner. Tiranga can be destroyed with respect by burning it somewhere in solitude or by other means.
Insulting the Tiranga can be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term that may extend to three years, with a fine, or with both. For this, a provision has been made in section 2 of the Prevention of Insults to National Pride Act, 1971. Under this, it will be an offense to burn, crush, tear or damage in any way the Tiranga and the Constitution in any public place.
