Functions of the Refugee Relief and Rehabilitation Department of West Bengal
The Refugee Relief and Rehabilitation of the Government of West Bengal works in conjunction with the Land and Land Reform Department. We have already discussed that in the seventies, many refugees from East Pakistan took up residence in West Bengal.
The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi granted asylum to these homeless refugees and issued an order to ensure their proper selection.
However, at present, this sub-divisional train is working for countries other than East Pakistan, as it is often observed that a large number of refugees from neighboring countries take up residence in West Bengal and their rehabilitation becomes very important.
